Dual-Function Design

Every Square Inch Counts

The Brief

Two rooms in one — without compromise.

Our clients needed a home office that could transform seamlessly into a guest room for visiting family. The challenge was not simply fitting two functions into one space — it was making each feel intentional, generous, and complete.

The solution centered on a wall of custom millwork that conceals a Murphy bed behind paneling flush with the built-in shelving. By day, the room reads as a refined study. By night, it becomes a composed and welcoming guest retreat.

Design Notes

Precision in Every Detail

Concealed Murphy Bed

The bed panel is faced in the same painted millwork as the surrounding shelving — closed, it is indistinguishable from the built-in library wall.

Custom Built-Ins

Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry provides ample storage for both office essentials and guest linens, with adjustable shelving and integrated task lighting.

Material Palette

Teal lacquered walls, warm walnut accents, and brass hardware create a room that feels rich and considered rather than utilitarian.

Acoustic Design

Layered textiles — a wool rug, linen drapery, and upholstered desk chair — absorb sound for focused work and restful sleep alike.
